Celebrating The Board Of Education’s Leadership

The Copiague School District recognized its Board of Education members during the Oct. 26 Board meeting in honor of School Board Recognition Week, an annual observance celebrating the dedication and service of school board members across New York State.
Sponsored by the New York State School Boards Association each October, School Board Recognition Week provides an opportunity for school communities to acknowledge the many contributions board members make in support of students, staff and public education.
The evening’s festivities opened with a special performance by the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Madrigal Choir, whose musical selections helped set the tone for the celebration. Throughout the evening, several district organizations expressed their appreciation through charitable donations and meaningful tributes.
The Copiague Teachers Association and the Copiague Association of Supervisors made donations in the Board’s name to the Eagles Nest Food Pantry, the district’s in-school food pantry. The Copiague Association of Principals honored the Board by donating to the Chris Madden Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a graduating Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School senior.
The Copiague PTA Council also participated in the recognition, providing refreshments for attendees. Additionally, members of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Art Honor Society presented the Board with a handcrafted piece of artwork.
