Student Research Shines Spotlight On Hispanic Figures

As part of their Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, fourth and fifth grade students are learning about the influential individuals who have made meaningful contributions throughout history and continue to make an impact today.
Students from Ms. Benavides and Mrs. Ottati’s fifth grade class at Deauville Gardens West Elementary School researched notable figures and explored the diverse cultures of various countries. They shared insights into traditional foods, customs and music, bringing the rich heritage of the Hispanic community to life.
In Ms. Ruggeriero’s fourth grade class at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School, students also selected an influential Hispanic figure to research, exploring their backgrounds, accomplishments and contributions. After completing their research, they created short written pieces highlighting the lives and achievements of their chosen individuals.
Students then presented their work to classmates, sharing what they discovered and introducing their peers to Hispanic historymakers from the past and present. The presentations sparked classroom discussions and encouraged students to learn from one another while celebrating the many contributions of Hispanic individuals.
