Kiwanis Breakfast Celebrates Student Service and Leadership

Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School held its annual Kiwanis Club of Copiague breakfast on May 26, recognizing students for their dedication to community service and leadership throughout the school year.
The celebration brought together district administrators and representatives from the Kiwanis Club of Copiague, as well as advisors and members of the high school’s Key Club and the middle school’s Builders Club. The event highlighted the positive impact students have made through volunteerism and service initiatives across the community.
Following breakfast, attendees enjoyed a special musical performance by cast members from the high school production of “Shrek the Musical,” who performed a medley of songs for guests.
During the event, Kiwanis Club President Christine Madrazo presented scholarships to eight graduating Key Club seniors in recognition of their outstanding commitment to service and leadership. Scholarship recipients are Joshua Henry, Ronan Higgins, Krzysztof Krasnowski, Kaia Mabli, Jimena Machuca, Cherly Mejia, Jocelyne Carranza Orellana and Rosina Wickham.
Key Club President Krasnowski and Vice President Mabli reflected on the club’s many accomplishments throughout the year, including volunteer efforts with Good Samaritan University Hospital, hosting blood drives and an auction, and organizing a Field of Flags event for veterans as well as the annual car show.
Members of the Middle School Builders Club also shared highlights from their year of service, which included visits to the Tanner Park Senior Center, food collections and clothing and book drives that supported local families and organizations.
The annual breakfast served as a meaningful celebration of the students’ hard work, compassion and dedication to making a difference within the Copiague community.
