Internet Enabled Personal Electronic Device Policy
Dear WGOCHS Families,
Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, all schools in New York State had a "bell-to-bell" cellphone ban. This meant that students were not be permitted to use cellphones or other internet-enabled personal devices during the school day. This statewide mandate aimed to reduce distractions and promote focus on academics.
The "bell-to-bell" cellphone ban will continue to be enforced during the 2026-2027 school year.
The links below provide information about the Copiague Public School District's policy and specifically addresses how the policy will be implemented at the Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School. There are three links that share the information in English, Spanish, and Polish. Please take the time to review the presentation so that you are aware of the expectations.
During the second week of school, all students will attend grade level meetings during which students will be familiarized with the policy and the implementation of policy at the Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School. Each student will be provided with the storage pouch referenced in the presentation at their specific grade level meeting. Please note that every student is expected to comply with the policy and use the pouch on a daily basis. If a student damages or loses the storage pouch, the student (or the student's family) will be responsible for replacing the pouch at a cost of $15.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Joseph M. Agosta
