Welcome Back - 2026-2027 School Year

Dear Parents/Guardians,

 

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School, I would like to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year.  The first day of school for all high school students is Wednesday, September 2, 2026.  Administrators and teachers everywhere recognize the important contributions parents/guardians make toward a child’s success in school.  There is no question about it – success at school begins at home!     

 

Parents/Guardians are the single most important variable in predicting a child’s success in school.  One of the most important components of a good school is the partnership between the school and the parents/guardians who work together for the best interest of children.  The faculty and staff at the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School welcome the opportunity to work with you on behalf of our students.  

 

The primary objective of the faculty and staff of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School is to ensure that your child reaches his/her fullest potential academically, socially, and emotionally.  The environment in which your child learns is perhaps the most critical component of his/her educational success.  Academic excellence can only be achieved in an environment that is safe and well supervised both online and in-person.  With this in mind, it is important that students be reminded of some guidelines related to school procedures that are contained in the Student Handbook.  Please carefully review the handbook attached to this message with your child and complete the online acknowledgement form included in this message as well.  Please pay particular attention to the following sections of the Student Handbook:

Please keep in mind that any serious violation of the school conduct and discipline policy may result in suspension from school and referral to the Superintendent of Schools for further disciplinary action.

Success in school is as dependent upon good attendance as upon any other single factor. Attendance and achievement go hand-in-hand. We expect that students be present and punctual for each class in which they are enrolled.  First period begins promptly at 7:42 AM.
