Great Neck Road’s Youngest Gardeners Get Growing

Kindergartners at Great Neck Road Elementary School are growing their knowledge of science through an engaging unit focused on plants.
As part of the lesson, students learned about the different parts of a plant, including roots, stems, leaves and flowers, as well as the essential elements needed to survive. They also explored the life cycle of a plant, gaining an understanding of how seeds develop through various stages.
Bringing their learning to life, each student took on the role of a gardener by planting their own sunflower seeds. Using soil and water, kindergartners carefully potted their plants and will continue to observe and care for them over the coming weeks. This hands-on experience allows students to make real-world connections to their science lessons while developing responsibility and curiosity. As their plants grow, so too will their understanding of the natural world.
