Young Artists Inspired By Museum Visit

Advanced art students from Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich artistic heritage of Long Island during a visit to the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor. Accompanied by art teachers Eric Rodrigues and Damin Gomes, the students participated in a curated museum experience that combined observation, inspiration and hands-on learning.
The students explored the exhibition “250 Years of Art on Long Island.” The expansive showcase featured works by renowned artists from across the region, spanning from Brooklyn to Montauk, and provided students with a deeper understanding of Long Island’s artistic legacy.
Throughout their visit, students visited multiple galleries housed within the historic Frick Estate, engaging directly with a wide range of artistic styles and time periods. The experience extended beyond observation, as students participated in interactive activities designed to deepen their artistic practice. They created sketches inspired by works that resonated with them and developed abstract compositions in response to music played throughout the galleries.
Students also had the opportunity to explore the museum’s scenic sculpture grounds, observing three-dimensional works in an outdoor setting while enjoying the spring weather. This enriching experience allowed students to connect classroom learning with real-world artistic exploration, fostering creativity, critical thinking and a greater appreciation for the arts.
