Building Portfolios, Shaping Artistic Futures

Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School has launched a new Portfolio Workshop art course for the 2025-2026 school year, designed to support students pursuing art-related majors in their postsecondary education. The class focuses on helping students develop a well-rounded, competitive art portfolio to submit as part of the college application process.
An art portfolio is a curated collection of an artist’s strongest and most representative work, showcasing technical skills, creativity and a unique artistic voice. According to art teacher Eric Rodrigues, the projects in Portfolio Workshop are intentionally aligned with portfolio requirements from art schools across the United States. In addition to structured assignments, students receive personalized projects tailored to their intended area of study.
Students enrolled in the course are interested in a variety of creative fields, including graphic design, animation, art education, illustration, medical illustration and fashion design. Through focused instruction and individualized guidance, Portfolio Workshop prepares students to confidently present their work and take the next step in their artistic journey.
