Future Leaders Shine In Election Day Activities

In recognition of Election Day, third, fourth and fifth grade students at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School participated in a civics and leadership experience. After holding primary elections in their classrooms, students selected representatives to deliver campaign speeches before their peers — with third graders running for secretary, fourth graders for vice president, and fifth graders for president and treasurer.
Each grade level practiced public speaking, shared their ideas for improving the school community, and learned about the importance of student leadership and civic participation.
In addition, first graders in Ms. Rizzo’s class learned about the significance of Election Day and why schools are closed in observance. Students read books about voting, discussed the value of participating in elections, created their own Election Day booklets and made door hangers to remind their families to vote.
