First Graders Piece Together Kindness For World Kindness Day

In celebration of World Kindness Day on Nov. 13, first grade students at Great Neck Road Elementary School came together to create a colorful kindness quilt, symbolizing the importance of compassion and community.
To begin the project, students read the book “Try a Little Kindness,” encouraging discussions about what it means to be kind to others. Through interactive writing lessons, they brainstormed and created circle maps highlighting ways to show kindness both in and out of school.
Each student then designed a quilt square illustrating one personal act of kindness. When assembled, the squares formed a large, vibrant paper quilt now prominently displayed in the hallway as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can have a positive impact. Through this creative, hands-on project, students learned that together, their individual efforts can make a big difference one kind act at a time.
