Superintendent’s Conference Day Kicks Off New School Year

Teachers, staff and Board of Education members in the Copiague School District gathered in the auditorium of Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School on Sept. 2 for Superintendent’s Conference Day. The day brought together staff from across the district for professional development, collaboration and inspiration ahead of students’ return to school.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Bannon welcomed everyone with opening remarks that set the tone for the year. In her address, she highlighted the robust electives offered at the high school level, enrollment numbers and new Board of Education policies. “I want to thank you for your dedication and the incredible work that you do every day, and always remember if it's good for kids, it's good.”’
Board of Education First Vice President Brian J. Sales urged staff to remember the impact they have on students’ lives. “As we embark on a new school year together, I’m reminded of the incredible work that each we do every single day – work that doesn’t just impact lives of students but shapes the very future of our community and the world,” he said. “As I look out at this room, I see a powerful collective that shares one purpose: to make a difference.”
Before heading back to their respective buildings, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Todd Andrews presented service awards to those individuals who celebrated 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years with the Copiague School District.
