Character Education Comes To Life In Copiague

On June 4, students from Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School’s Advanced Drama class visited the district’s four elementary schools as part of the high school’s K.A.T.S. troupe, “Kids Are The Spotlight.”
Under the direction of teacher Sylvia Walsh, the high schoolers performed children’s literature on stage to promote positive character education for the younger students, bringing different books to life. The actors encouraged audience participation throughout the show and engaged in close discussions with the students regarding the conflicts presented in the story. They addressed character education topics such as bullying, including others, anxiety, school behavior and name calling. The objective of the show is to encourage younger students to speak up, identify wrong behavior and be upstanders.
