Dear Parents,

Our first Open School Night will be on Thursday, October 13 for students whose last names begin with the letter A through L.  Our second Open School Night will be on Thursday, October 20 for students whose last names begin with the letters M through Z.  Both programs will begin at 7:00 p.m. and continue until 9:00 p.m. We have found that this arrangement reduces the amount of time you will have to wait to see teachers, but it can only work if everyone limits their conferences to a few moments.  If necessary, additional conferences may be arranged personally or by phone with a teacher, instructional team, or counselor.

In addition, our Parent Teacher Conference Afternoon will be held on Tuesday, November 22, just after the report cards for the first marking period are sent home.  All parents are welcome to attend without making an appointment and further information will be mailed home in November.

To coincide with the open school evenings, progress reports will be mailed home prior to October 13.  It is important that you bring your child’s progress report and agenda book with you so that you will have a ready reference of your child’s teachers.  A directory of room numbers and a school map will be available at the main entrance of the building when you arrive to help you find your way around.

Please note the following teachers will only be at the middle school on Thursday, October 13:
Ms. Budion                   Mr. Casale                    Dr. Murray                   Ms. B. Olsen
Mr. Rebholz                  Mrs. Riviello                 Mr. Schweitzer             Ms. Jessup-Levitt
Please note the following teachers will only be at the middle school on Thursday, October 20:
            Mrs. Flores                   Mr. Phillips
Further, please remember these important dates and keep them handy for future reference:
Thursday, November 10 - First Marking Period Ends
Friday, November 18 - Report Cards Mailed Home
Wednesday, November 16 - Photo Make-up Day
            Tuesday, November 22 – Parent Teacher Conference Afternoon – 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.

Finally, during Open School Nights, Thursday, October 13 & October 20, the Middle School PTA will conduct its annual membership drive, (cost per person $7), and most importantly, a voter registration drive. Please stop by the PTA table and join us in making our school a Great Place to Learn

Estimados  padres:

Ms. Budion               Mr. Casale                Dr. Murray                      Ms. B. Olsen
Mr. Rebholz              Mrs. Riviello          Mr. Schweitzer                 Ms. Jessup-Levitt

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Too often, after the fact, we hear stories about children falling victim to the pranks of older children and adults on Halloween, senseless community vandalism, and accidents that could have been avoided. Knowing that education is the key, we will utilize various forums to prepare for this cultural observance in a positive and appropriate manner. We will encourage students to follow some basic guidelines to ensure a safe and fun experience.

Knowing that many middle level students enjoy Halloween and need an outlet for their enthusiasm, the middle school will sponsor an “Orange and Black Day” on Monday, October 31, 2011. We believe the Orange and Black theme woven creatively into the regular instructional day will be handled responsibly by all of our students.

On Monday, October 31, 2011, only, students may come to school dressed in orange and black clothing, hats, nail polish, lipstick, sparkles, eye shadow, and hair color. Students must get dressed at home and will not be allowed to bring items to school to dress or decorate other students. Costumes, wigs, and masks are prohibited. As always, dangerous or inappropriate items ordinarily not permitted in school will not be allowed. Attached for your information is a copy of the Halloween Safety Handout that was reviewed in each homeroom. If you need further clarification, please check your child’s Agenda Book and/or our website.

We truly hope that our joint educational efforts will result in a safe and fun filled Halloween celebration that will be enjoyed by our students, families, and community.
