Our Home & Career and Technology Curricula are designed to fulfill the N.Y.S. standards in a graduated approach from grades six through eight. Much of the terminology, concepts and principles taught in these courses, culminate in an activity or project that demonstrates student mastery. Our Technology curriculum is currently engaged in an alignment process that will better bridge the subjects of Science and Mathematics, as content from both subjects are fused into hands on technology activities. Staff Mrs. Barteldt, Mrs. Kazlauskas, Ms. Lefkowitz, Mr. DiGiorgio Home and Careers Home and Career Skills is a mandatory class designed to prepare middle school students with basic life skills that will enable them to meet their present and future responsibilities as family members, consumers, home managers, wage earners and community members. Home and Career Skills offers a diverse curriculum that involves active, hands-on learning. In this course, middle school students will develop critical thinking skills as they learn about and create foods through nutrition studies and kitchen labs. Students are also exposed to consumerism, career self-assessment, financial planning, sewing in the real world and short and long term goal setting. We also find ways to improve our Mathematics skills through recipe investigation and incorporate ELA skills by writing, listening and analyzing information.
